Our students come from varied domains, professional and educational backgrounds ranging from engineers to bankers, geologists to people with degrees in English, HR and many more. But few would expect a successful entrepreneur with experience of more than 15 years to take up Analytics as their next career move.

Here are excerpts from our conversation with Nikunj, successful entrepreneurs and Ivy student in Business Analytics –

“You’ve been a successful entrepreneur. What prompted you to learn Analytics?

I have been a BPO entrepreneur for over 17 years now, literally started when I was still in college and the industry was in its infancy. Then the tide came and I experienced exactly what it feels like to ride the wave. when a sector is going great guns, it just feels great to be a part of it. As we know, the BPO industry has reached far beyond maturity now and things are no longer exciting. I strongly believe Analytics is where the next wave is going to be. I have always been a thinker and problem solver so Analytics excites me all the more and it’s got me excited and passionate about my work all over again.

How do you see Entrepreneurs/SME’s adopting Analytics in the near future?

Well, it’s one thing to just “know” things off the top of our head and it’s quite another when you actually study the data and come to conclusions objectively. I think anyone who has not used Analytics before would be surprised by the kind of insight it gets them into their business. Some commonly held perceptions and beliefs are more than likely to be challenged and found out. I remember seeing an interview of Sachin Tendulkar recently where he said that the 1st time he saw a computer in the dressing room, he thought it was a waste of time and effort but once he saw the insights that analytics in cricket could provide, he was blown away and many of his widely held perceptions changed.

What is your future goal?

Having been an entrepreneur for more than 17 years now, I have kind of got tired of having to do it all by myself. As an entrepreneur, one has to wear many different hats and I have done that during the journey of my company going from 5 of us to more than 500 people. I would like to be a part of the management team of a growing company or a brilliant start-up in the Analytics space where I can learn from others around me and prove myself in the corporate world.

Lastly, How has Ivy Pro School helped you dive into the world of Analytics?

Ivy has given me a fantastic overview of what Analytics is and the various tools and processes out there. It has also enabled me to interact with well-known people from the Analytics industry and be a part of the whole ecosystem. Prateek and Eeshani have been especially helpful and I just love the way they are so hands-on with everything that goes on at Ivy. Being entrepreneurs themselves, they look at things from a wider perspective. It helps tremendously being able to talk to them and get their views on anything to do with Analytics.”

Thank you Nikunj for your kind words. We are sure you will achieve new heights in your career.
