Introduction

I am Komal Wahi, currently pursuing my master’s in economics from St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata. I was very much interested in exploring the world of analytics, and the best decision I made was to join IVY Professional School, Kolkata. I enrolled myself for a Data Science and Machine Learning Certification, and my experience so far has been wonderful. It is a solid platform where you can Learn, Grow and Apply.

Tell us about the competition you participated in?

There are several competitions that keep coming organized by various renowned institutions. I basically try to participate in data analytics competitions. There are several platforms where you can participate, like MachineHack, Dare2Compete, and so on. All you need to do is register for it, and you will get all the updates via your emails.

Why do you take part in such competitions?

I believe participating in such competitions is a healthy way to learn and explore. Winning is never the priority.

Which other competitions have you participated in?

I basically participated in 2 competitions, securing the 4th position in the ‘GoCrakIt- GQ Analytics’ competition. This competition had multiple MCQ questions on Statistics. While in the ‘Data Analytics Competition’ organized by BIT Mesra, I have cleared my 1st round and have made my submission for the second round, currently waiting for the results of round-2. In addition to that, the 1st round had an MCQ question in the field of analytics, while the second round was a case study that had to be solved. They communicate all the details beforehand.

How do you prepare for it?

To keep it short and sweet, Ivy Pro School will train you in such a way that participating in such competitions becomes really interesting and fun. Eeshani ma’am has always been there to help and guide us.

What is all assessed and asked in such competitions?

Participating in the Dare2Compete platform is important for you to be a part of an educational institution as a student. Like either pursuing your bachelor’s or master’s or doing your MBA. This platform basically collects your personal details such as

  • name, phone number, email id,
  • Which college are you from?
  • Which course are you doing and in which year?

Certain competitions do allow a team of 2 or 3 people to participate.

Did you hesitate to participate in such competitions initially? If yes, how did you overcome it?

I won’t say I hesitated, but it was Eeshani ma’am who actually introduced me to such competitions. So I’m really grateful to her. It is because of her I am confident today.

Advice for current students.

My only advice to all the readers would be that Ivy Pro School is a great platform. If you are a student of IVY, then you are in the right place. However, for people who are reading this and aren’t a student yet, please do visit their website and have a look they have a good number of courses available and I’m sure it will be a great experience for you as well.
