A round-up of what’s been happening in the Indian Analytics space …

As the Indian start-up ecosystem gets bigger and faster, the need for analytics and Big Data training takes precedence. This month we find a new approach taken by the corporate sector to fill the gap between jobs and appropriate skill sets with TCS entering the fray after Usha Martin, even as Analytics Training institutes continue to impart foundational skills in analytics.

Acquisitions, Partnerships & Expansions

# Global technology consultant Brillio has acquired Bangalore based Marketelligent, a Data Analytics startup. Taking advantage of the latter’s data visualisation and reporting solutions leveraging advanced predictive analytics, this acquisition is aimed at “creating a stronger platform designed to deliver innovation and business growth”.

# Tata Consultancy Services Ltd has partnered with VMware to open a global customer Center of Excellence (CoE) with two data centre locations, one of which would be at Pune. The joint initiative intends to bring together solutions to achieve lower operating costs and increased performance for effectively designing and operating traditional IT into software-defined data centres, “in weeks versus years”.

# An IBM-Twitter data partnership will help Indian firms cut costs, by deploying select cloud-based services for small business users in the SMAC technology space. IBM also plans to “offer Twitter data as part of select cloud-based services to bring intuitive visualization and predictive capabilities to business users”.

# Pune-based Sapience Analytics has raised funding to expand its footprint in the United States and other developed markets.

Analytics Career Scope

# Infosys is partnering with the Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering at Stanford University to develop a curriculum in data science and analytics, and additionally conduct joint research in data science and analytics for industry applications. Besides this, Infosys plans Masters and Doctorate programmes in newer technologies like artificial intelligence, cloud and analytics.

# SAS maps its analytics growth strategy with the second largest R&D centre in India, working with top business schools, universities and engineering colleges to create a pool of analytics talent.

New launches – start-ups, services, vendor products, apps

# Twitter plans to use India as the base for developing new technologies for media and analytics capabilities, a part of research at the Laboratory for Social Machines (LSM),

# According to NASSCOM – while technology start-ups in India will rise fourfold by 2020, the cities of Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Cochin, Jaipur and Thiruvananthapuram will feature as emerging locations for start-up activities building global solutions.
