#1. Hike in Analytics Salaries

Topping the monthly wrap-up is the buzz of Analytics Professional gaining a 250 percent hike in their salaries. Average entry level salaries witnessed an increase of 27 percent since 2013, from Rs. 5.2 lakhs to Rs 6.6 lakhs per annum. Although, going by some of the industry stats this may actually be understated, and one can expect the rising trend to continue.

#2. Proprietary technologies in Big Data analytics strategise Indian politics

With political parties taking stock of their win/loss post-2014 Lok Sabha elections, the role of analytics in politics and elections, has finally been acknowledged. You may recall that Modak Analytics,  a data analytics start-up in Hyderabad , was given the role of building India’s first Big Data based Electoral Data Repository of its 81.4 crore electorate. What’s more, Modak Analytics has devised proprietary technologies of applying big data analytics to Indian politics for actionable insights and booth strategies – namely Rapid ETL, transliteration of Indian languages and data dictionaries.

#3. Acquisition of SMAC supportive start-up

Continuing the ongoing 2014 trend of SMAC focus, the Nasdaq-listed Pegasystems acquires text mining and analytics startup MeshLabs. Incubated at IIM Bangalore in 2009, MeshLabs offers the advantage of text analytics software that will be leveraged for monitoring social media streams, and other data sources, for automated real-time, personalised customer experience.

#4. More investment and more jobs, in analytics and developing

Investments in the Indian analytics industry continue. Concentrix Corporation is strengthening its analytics and developer base in India, with plans of investing over Rs.146 crores in the next 2 years. This will lead to more jobs in the BPO.

#5. Insights Lab launched with R&D focus

Accountancy and consulting firm, KPMG has launched the KPMG Insights Labs, to incubate, design and develop new data and analytics (D&A) applications and ideas. The thrust is on client experience of the ‘art of the possible’ and the ‘art of the probable’ in leveraging their data for faster, more insightful decisions. A great environment for researcher-developers in data science!

#6. Another move to capitalise on the fast expanding data services segment

International software and services firm, Comptel India, is reorganizing its operations,  moving from voice-centric to the data-centric services. Again this means more jobs for Analytics Professionals.

#7. Big time investment in Big Data Analytics

More news on the investment front, now in Big Data analytics. Patni Brothers of Patni Computer Systems, plan to raise about $40 million  to invest solely in companies offering Big Data analytics – in particular fund Big Data vendors with a large customer base in the US.

#8. Collaborative empowerment for intelligent analytics in SAN cloud environments  

Brocade has collaborated with VMware to provide intelligent analytics capabilities for fiber channel storage area networks (SANs) supporting cloud environments, using the VMware vCenter Log Insight 2.0. This seeks to significantly improve upon prior generations of analytics solutions for signal-to-noise ratio when dealing with multi terabytes of datasets.

#9. Analytics driven application for travel industry

Once again we wrap up with an innovative application area. Tangerine Digital has launched analytics driven content services in the travel sector. Taking advantage of a 97 % brand-loyalty of Indians on social media, with a 187 % spend on travel and tourism brands alone – Tangerine has leveraged analytics insights to empower travel companies with the right metrics.
