Our alumnus Subhojit Sengupta talks about his journey in analytics and his association with Ivy Professional School.

Tell us something about yourself?

I am a commerce graduate & a MBA (Finance) with 9+ years of industry experience.

Where are you currently working and what are is your current role?

I am currently working in Accenture as an “Analytics & Modeling Specialist”

How has been your journey in Analytics?

It has been a great learning experience & also a rewarding journey so far. I have had the opportunity of showcasing my Analytical skills and am fortunate that I have been applauded for it too.

Such an opportunity came to me within a few days of joining Accenture. I got an opportunity to build a Logistic Regression model on SAS to predict the churn probabilities of customers of a US based Retail Company.

In fact, the objective of the project was to build an automated pricing tool which would tell that if the price increases by a certain percentage, what is the probability of churn of a particular customer.
The team which was working on it was using Excel, SQL & VBA to build the tool & had come to a point where they got stuck & didn’t know how to proceed.

At that point I gave them the idea of building a model to predict customer churn which can be used further to build the pricing tool.
But since the team members didn’t have statistical modeling skills, I developed the model for them using Logistic Regression on SAS which was used to build the automated pricing tool.

Later on the project manager openly acknowledged my contribution in that project.

What prompted you to move to Analytics and what were the challenges that you faced?

In 2012, I became an unfortunate victim of downsizing in my previous organization. Since I already had 7+ years of industry experience & sound knowledge of statistics, I decided take the plunge in the exciting world of Analytics. Most of the students of Ivy are either fresh graduates or working professionals with industry experience. I was the only student who had work experience but was rendered jobless for reasons beyond my control. So the biggest challenge for me was to complete the course successfully & rejoin the corporate world once again at position which would be commensurate to my experience & my previous compensation package.

How has your association been with IVY?

It has been an enlightening & enriching association. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to Prateek, Eeshani, Souvik & Sandip for everything they have done for me.

Thanks for your kind words Subhojit. We wish you the best in your career ahead.

Students like you make us proud!
