The news in the Indian analytics industry is upbeat. Moody’s Analytics puts India’s GDP growth rate at 7.5% during the previous three months, with Potential Growth Rate likely to reach 9 %.\u00a0 The ARC Advisory Group\u00a0Report on trends in Analytics and Business Intelligence (ABI) choice, application and deployment in India also presents an optimistic picture. For those who have carved a career roadmap in Analytics, it couldn\u2019t have been better.<\/p>\n

News on the Analytics landscape\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

# The Analytics picture brightens in Eastern India<\/strong><\/p>\n

A proposal for setting up an \u201cAnalytics city<\/a>\u201d first mooted by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), has been approved by the West Bengal Government. A 50-acre plot in Kalyani has been identified as the site, with possibilities of a similar themed city in Rajarhat New Town. In a bid to woo major IT firms dealing in data analysis, this \u201cAnalytics\u201d themed city will be the first of its kind, with the infrastructure of a smart city complete with residential and commercial complexes. This means one can look forward to increased analytics activity in Kolkata, with the existing GICs increasing capacity and hiring, and new entrants of analytics firms.<\/p>\n

New launches and Expansions <\/strong><\/p>\n

# GICs in India growing into centres of excellence, profit centres, and program management offices<\/strong><\/p>\n

Multinational firms continue to set up global captive centres or global in-house centres (GICs)<\/a> in India. Over the past 2 years alone, 70 companies have set up GICs, taking the number to more than 1448 and about 20 companies in different stages of evaluation of setting up.\u00a0 With an existing headcount of 74500, and a growth rate of 11 per cent, this indicates extensive entry level\u00a0career opportunities.<\/p>\n

# Mobile analytics firm App Annie to set up shop in India<\/strong><\/p>\n

The mobile analytics\u00a0company\u00a0App Annie, a Chinese start-up,\u00a0is to begin operations in India<\/a> by the end of the year. With a client base among the top Fortune 100 companies, App Annie will offer usage intelligence on apps – customer information during every stage of an app’s life cycle, insights on mobile app reach, engagement and retention, identifying investment opportunities and evaluating advertising revenue potential. This follows the influx of Chinese start-ups in the Indian market, like the Alibaba-owned mobile browser UC Web, mobile tools provider Cheetah Mobile, and smart phone maker Xiaomi.<\/p>\n

# American retailer Lowe is to double hiring in India<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Bengaluru innovation centre of Lowe<\/a>\u00a0providing analytics and technology services, will add 350 to its existing workforce. The analytics team in India looks closely at shopping patterns across stores, besides exploring seamless integration of online and offline shopping. It implements technology for its in-store analytics programmes across 1,840 stores in the US, Canada and Mexico, and has plans for India. With campus hiring scheduled across profiles, Lowe is expected to offer analytics students and professionals an integrated experience in retail analytics.<\/p>\n

# The App Analytics market accelerates<\/strong><\/p>\n

Apple has just offered its own tool for developers to analyse performance of its apps. App analytics offers access to more granular and accurate app usage insights. With App Annie, Appsee and Flurry, already active in a fast maturing App analytics market, the entry of Apple accelerates the battle for Apps analytics market share. <\/a><\/p>\n

# Rapidly expanding market in Video Analytics <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Video Analytics market (currently in the range of $5-20 million) is expected to grow to more than $100 million in 5 years. Video Analytics adoption in India is presently confined to Government and security needs. With the Indian surveillance market at Rs 2500 crores, growing at the rate of 25-30% per year, Video Analytics is a rapidly expanding market transforming\u00a0the security analytics landscape.<\/p>\n
